Before the Export Finishes
Permissions and sharing
Can I remix someone else's clip?
Only if their licence or written permission allows modification, and you credit them as requested. CC BY-ND does not allow remixes. See the clip exchange guide.
Is a watermark necessary when I share a cut?
It is optional. A small credit line is usually enough for feedback rounds. Large watermarks can distract reviewers from the edit itself.
Does RoundupReclipHoppr host uploads or accounts?
No. The site is an editorial guide. Thread examples are illustrative and there are no uploads, accounts or live posting here.
Export and technical
Which export settings suit short-form platforms?
A 1080 × 1920 H.264 file at the source frame rate, with a generous bitrate, works for most vertical platforms. Check each platform's current upload guidance, as limits change.
Should I edit at 24, 25 or 30 frames per second?
Edit at the frame rate you shot, and keep the whole timeline consistent. Mixing rates causes judder; if you must mix, conform clips deliberately.
What loudness should I aim for?
Many streaming and social platforms normalise to around −14 LUFS; European broadcast uses EBU R128 at −23 LUFS. Consistency across your piece matters more than an exact number.
Which editing software should I use?
Any software works for these challenges. DaVinci Resolve, Kdenlive and Shotcut have free options; Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro are paid. Choose based on your device, budget and what you want to learn.
Feedback
How many notes should I give on one edit?
Answer the editor's question, then give one strength and two or three specific points. Use the critique template.
What if two reviewers disagree?
Treat conflicting notes as a sign the moment is ambiguous, then decide based on your goal. Explain your decision when you share the revision.
